Today is World Suicide Prevention Day. Last year, I wrote a blog post with the To Write Love On Her Arms (TWLOHA) theme “I Kept Living” here. This year, TWLOHA’s theme is “Stay. Find what you were made for.”
Suicide prevention is something that is very important to me. I know what it’s like to be down and feel like there’s no way up. Or to be so broken and hopeless and think that nothing was ever going to get better. Most of all, I know what it’s like to believe that suicide is the only way out. I’m here today to tell you that it isn’t — that you should stay and find what you were made for.
There were multiple times where I wanted to end it all, to finally end all of the pain. But I didn’t. No matter how close I got, I always chose to stay. I refused to let the pain win, to let my depression be the reason I give up. I’ve been finding what I am made for.
-Telling my story for His glory
-Making people laugh
-Loving others like I’ve never been hurt
-Seeing my goddaughter smile
-Helping the next generation
-Being the person I needed when I was younger
-Creating and designing
-Reminding others to stay
If you feel the way I’ve felt and want to give up, don’t. Keep going. Keep fighting. You aren’t alone in your journey, please don’t ever be afraid to seek help.
Stay. Find what you were made for.
