Worry Less, Pray More

Hi, friends!

It’s that time again… Time for another interview!

This month, I decided to interview the beautiful and talented, Lehua. I haven’t known Lehua for very long, but what I’ve noticed and admire about her is that she’s hardworking, passionate, and creative. I connected with her when I started seeing her calligraphy and hand lettering work. (You should follow her art account @live_laugh_love_letter to see her lettering work and her business account @ignitealoha to see the clothing she’s designed!)

What are your favorite colors?

Favorite Color to wear: Black (Because it makes you look slimmer.. Lol.)
Favorite Color on everything else: Pink, Yellow, Teal…I just like bright colors.

How would you describe yourself?

I love Jesus. I’m Isaac’s wife. I’m really shy if I don’t know you. I get mistaken for being a snob all the time because I’m shy so I won’t talk much and I also have really bad RBF so that always sucks too. But, I actually like to have lots of friends around me. I like having fun. I like being happy. I love to laugh.

What are some of your hobbies/things you like to do in your free time?

I love to sleep. I like to read. I like watching TV and eating ice cream. Lol. Basically, I like to do nothing.

What is something you’re passionate about but isn’t well known?

I’ve always enjoyed crafting, any and all kinds. Only recently have I decided to pay more attention and put more energy and effort into it.

If your life was a movie, what would the title be?

“Jay Kay, Jesus!”
…LOL, because that’s pretty much my daily conversations with Jesus. I’m always saying or doing the wrong things most times on accident, but sometimes intentionally. And then Jesus corrects me and that’s my usual response.

What are three of your most prized possessions?

My Pillow – No, for real. I LOVE my pillow. I don’t share it.
My Phone – Because of the pictures. My memories are stored on my phone.
My Pens – Because I just neeeeeeed them.

What is your greatest skill?

I had to ask my husband because I have a really hard time saying good things about myself. He says my greatest skill is my “attention to detail.”

If we learn from our failures, why is failure frowned upon?

I think failure is frowned upon because most times, we’re taught and conditioned to be strong, to not show weakness, to not mess up.
For a long time, I could not fail. If I did, I would not be able to give myself grace. Recently, Jesus has been showing me that it is through the things that I fail at that He is able to show me how strong He is. And when I learn and acknowledge where He is strong in my weakness, He begins to strengthen me through His strength.

If you could choose to have no more challenges or obstacles in your life, would you? Why?

No, because I don’t see what the point of living would be. Challenges and obstacles are not fun, but they are beneficial. They help you to learn and to grow. It is through challenges and obstacles that you’re able to gain wisdom and experience.

What has been your greatest accomplishment?

My greatest accomplishment, recently, is having the courage to step out in faith and try something I’ve never done or thought I’d do by starting my own business.

Do you think crying is a sign of weakness or strength? Why?

I cry all the time! I don’t think it is a sign of weakness at all. I think it is a sign of self-awareness. I think it becomes a weakness when you no longer have control over your emotions and EVERYTHING becomes a reason for a break down.

What is the most important thing you’ve learned so far?

To trust Jesus, completely, because He is faithful. He always was and He always will be.

What advice would you give your younger self? (Any age under 18)

There will people in your life who won’t like you, and that’s okay.
There will be people who disagree with who you are or the way you do things, and that’s okay.
You won’t be able to make everyone around you happy, and that’s okay.
If I could go back in time, and give my younger self some advice, I would tell her to figure out who she really is. And once she knows and understands who she is, to hold tight to that understanding. Because there will be people and circumstances that will try to change that, try to change you — and you have to be able to stand firm in who you know you are.

What is the best advice you’ve received?

Worry less, pray more.
I tend to over analyze. I have a tendency to make things work out, and if they don’t, I will try everything possible to make it work. I tend to move on my own strength.
Stop worrying and relying on my own strength and understanding and start praying (relying on His strength and understanding).

How do you know if you should continue holding on or let go?

I think that depends on what it is and why you’re in that predicament to begin with. It also depends on your reasons. I think it’s also important to know the difference between quitting and surrendering.

What life lesson(s) did you have to learn on your own?

Some people are only meant to be in your life for a season.
Some people will not hold you as valuable as you hold them, and that’s okay. Love them still.
Self-reflection is the worst and best thing to do and that I need to do it consistently.

Think of what you regret the most. What has it taught you?

Losing the understanding of who I am in the midst of trying to prove my best in what I do.
The things I do can change quickly. And drastically. But who I am and the things that I stand for and are important to me, that should always remain the same.

What will you never give up on?

I will never give up on my faith. That is not an option.
I will never give up on my marriage. That is not an option.
I will never give up trying to be the best version of myself that I can possibly be.

Define what ‘faith’ means to you

Faith, to me, is my foundation. It is the light that shines in my darkest times. It is the relief that comes when everything feels so hard. It is the drive that motivates and encourages me to keep pressing on and to not quit. Faith is knowing that there is something more, that there is a bigger picture that I don’t fully understand yet. But as long as I have faith, I’ll be in good hands.

I’m so happy to have had the chance to get to know Lehua a little more through these questions. I can’t wait to see where God takes her in upcoming seasons!
