How I Have Myself a Merry Little Christmas

Hi, friends!

Everyone has their own holiday traditions, whether it’s with their family, friends, significant other, or even by themselves.

If you couldn’t tell yet, I love the holidays and I love holiday traditions, so I wanted to share some of my own holiday traditions with you!

Besides listening to my Christmas playlist and watching Christmas movies after Thanksgiving (read more about it in last week’s blog post here), I also set up my little Christmas tree in my room and decorate it with my little ornaments. Other than that, I have a few more traditions with my family and friends.

Each year, my family goes to watch the Tree Lighting Ceremony and the Electric Light Parade that happens on the opening night of the Honolulu City Lights at Honolulu Hale. After the ceremony and parade, we walk through Honolulu Hale to see all of the decorations. That usually happens towards the beginning of December, but throughout the rest of the month, we try to go to other holiday events, like the Kapolei City Lights Parade and whatever “snow days” there are at the different shopping center.

Sometimes it’s difficult to spend time with my friends during the holidays, since we’re all getting older and busier. We try to have a friends Christmas dinner, and another night we’ll have a Christmas movie marathon while we play board games, and if we’re lucky, one night we’ll go as a group to check out the Honolulu City Lights.

When Christmas Eve finally rolls around, I spend that day with my family. My mom’s side of the family comes together to have dinner and exchange gifts. Then on Christmas day, we go to see a movie in the morning then have lunch once the movie is over.

These may not be the most exciting traditions, but they are all traditions that I look forward to every year. I hope to add more traditions as years pass, especially with my future family, whenever that time comes.
